Bobby Martin thought he was just adding an extra measure of protection to his company's 300 gallon
diesel fuel tank when he opted to treat the fuel with Performance Formula. But he also
added more power to his engines. As a manager of remanufacturing at Engine Power Source, a Stanadyne Authorized Service Dealer in Charlotte, North Carolina, Martin decided to use PF in the tank following a sales meeting at Diesel Equipment Company, a Stanadyne Central Distributor in Greensboro. "They were talking about the benefits of Performance Formula in the meeting and one guy sitting near me said "there's alot of snake oil on the market, but this stuff really works." So, I thought, it won't hurt anything to treat it and it doesn't cost that much, maybe I'll give it a try." Martin's main concern in using Performance Formula was to help ensure water problems wouldn't plague the tank, which supplies fuel to test-run the 50 or more remanufactured diesel engines the firm turns out each month. He decided to test the power output of one engine in a before and after trial, more on the lark than anything else, he said. "We had one engine that registered 80 hp on the dynamometer using the untreated fuel," he recalled. "After treating the fuel and then runnning the engine on it for an hour or so, I asked one of the technicians to re-dyno it just for the heck of it. Neither of us thought there would be much of a change." They were mistaken. The engine picked up 7 hp, an 8.75 percent increase. "We were pretty impressed," Martin concluded.
